Seeking Legislator Housing Program Participants
Beginning January 2023, the Texas Legislature will convene at the Capitol for their 88th Regular Session that will last until the end of May.
While in Austin our elected officials and their staff need housing! The Austin Apartment Association is seeking properties and furniture companies willing to participate in the Texas Apartment Association’s Legislator Housing Program for 2023. This is a great way to both put a face to the industry before the legislature which affects our business and show a gesture of goodwill to the legislators and staff.
Properties in this program should be willing to offer unique lease arrangements such as: initial lease terms of 5-6 months, waive the advance notice requirements due to the possibility of an extended Special Legislative Session that could be announced during the waning days of May, and allow extensions of the lease to cover special sessions should they be called. Properties should also have an on-site manager (or available contact) who will be familiar with the program requirements if they’re contacted by a legislator or staff member.
Furniture companies also can sign-up for this program to assist in equipping these rental units for their residency in Austin!
Legislator Housing Program participants will have their property or company listed in a special directory sent to Texas Legislators. TAA and AAA will host a conference call for properties’ contacts in October to give an overview of the program.
Please let us know by September 30 if you are interested in participating so we have plenty of time to put the information together ahead of January.
