AAA Members Lend a Hand Through HACA and SAFE Volunteer Events
The spirit of service is alive and well among Austin Apartment Association (AAA) members. This summer and fall, AAA members are stepping up and giving back through hands-on volunteer efforts that support local families, youth, and survivors in the Austin community.
Supporting Students Through HACA’s Backpack Distribution Week
From August 6 to August 15, AAA members proudly participated in the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA)’s Backpack Distribution Week. This vital annual event ensures that hundreds of students from HACA communities start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed. Volunteers assisted with check-in sheets and helped distribute backpacks at various HACA properties, making sure every student felt supported and seen. Each location required 2–3 volunteers, and AAA members enthusiastically answered the call.
HACA Austin Youth Incentive Trip
Each year, the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) rewards its outstanding youth residents - those who make the A/B Honor Roll or have perfect attendance - with a well-deserved day of fun and celebration. This year’s Youth Incentive Trip took place at Pinstack, where students enjoyed arcade games, bowling, lunch, and quality time with peers. AAA members volunteered and helped ensure these hard-working students had a smooth and joyful experience! It was a great day!
Upcoming Opportunities to Give Back
The volunteering doesn’t stop there. AAA members will have the chance to support more meaningful causes in the coming months, including:
Volunteer Day at SAFE – Setting Up Homes for Survivors
In September, AAA members will join forces with The SAFE Alliance as they prepare to open a new housing complex featuring 40 apartments and 6 community kitchens. Volunteers will help get each apartment move-in ready for individuals and families transitioning out of crisis. Tasks include:
Dusting and general cleaning
Setting up bathrooms and kitchens
Cleaning microwaves and mini-fridges
Making beds and stocking essentials
The SAFE Alliance is the result of a merger between two of Austin’s most respected agencies - Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace - both of which have a long history of providing safe housing and critical support to survivors of abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
AAA is proud to partner with HACA and SAFE to build stronger, more resilient communities. These volunteer events are not only impactful but deeply rewarding for participants who want to make a difference where it’s needed most.
