AAA joins local nonprofits for Amplify Home

Posted By: Hannah Garcia Article of the Week,

On October 20–21, the Austin Apartment Association (AAA) joined I Live Here I Give Here, the City of Austin, and other local nonprofit organizations for Amplify Home, a day of action against family homelessness.

AAA hosted a training on Housing Assistance Programs featuring the Housing Authority of the City of Austin, SAFE Alliance, and the Sunrise Navigation Center. Each organization presented the programs they offer to support families in need of housing assistance.

The speakers highlighted the benefits of housing assistance programs for both families and property owners, emphasizing the financial stability these programs provide to families along with the supportive services offered by their organizations. They also addressed and clarified common misconceptions about housing assistance programs.

The event drew a full room of engaged members, demonstrating how invested AAA’s membership is in finding solutions to end homelessness. Members had the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and connect directly with the speakers.

Data from the City of Austin shows that thousands of students are experiencing homelessness and many families continue to struggle to remain stably housed. Amplify Home featured multiple events designed to raise awareness of these challenges and generate support for local nonprofits providing critical services.

Activities included a panel discussion with David Gray of the Homeless Strategy Office, Austin ISD training for educators on family homelessness, volunteer opportunities, and a press conference with Mayor Kirk Watson, David Gray, and nonprofit partners.

AAA is proud to support this important initiative and recognizes that this work must continue. We remain committed to educating property managers and owners on how to participate in housing assistance programs and effectively administer them to help keep families housed.
