2026 Primary Election Recap

On March 3, residents across Texas went to the polls to vote in the Democratic and Republican primary elections. Across Travis, Hays, and Williamson counties, more than 444,000 voters cast ballots in the primary.


The Austin Apartment Association PAC endorsed two candidates in local races. Ciara Parks for Travis County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 and Randall Slagle (Incumbent) for Travis County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2. 


Ciara Parks won the Democratic nomination for Travis County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1. Parks will succeed Yvonne M. Williams, who has served as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 since 2011.
Randall Slagle lost his bid for reelection for Travis County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2.

Judge Slagle has served in this role for more than ten years and will leave office at the end of the year. Mariel Kelley will begin her term as the new Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 in January 2027.

Travis County: 
  • Democratic County Commissioner, Precinct 2: Brigid Shea (Incumbent)
  • Democratic County Commissioner, Precinct 4: Run off between George Morales III and Susanna Ledesma-Woody
  • Democratic Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1: Ciara Parks
  • Democratic Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1: Mariel Kelley 

Hays County: 
  • Democratic County Judge: Runoff between Ruben Becerra (Incumbent) and Michelle Gutierrez Cohen  
  • Republican County Judge: Geoffrey Tahuahua
  • Democratic Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 2: Maggie Hernandez Moreno (Incumbent)
  • Democratic Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 1: Beth Smith (Incumbent)
  • Republican Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3: Joseph Jamieson
  • Republican Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4: John Burns (Incumbent)
  • Democratic Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5: Sandra Byrant (Incumbent) 

Williamson County: 
  • Democratic Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1: KT Musselman (Incumbent)
  • Republican Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2: Angela Williams (Incumbent)
  • Republican Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3: Evelyn Mclean (Incumbent)
  • Republican Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4: Rhonda Redden (Incumbent)
