2021 Professional of the Year Winners
Each year the Austin Apartment Association recognizes outstanding individuals and properties who achieved excellence and are leaders in their field. The eight Professional of the Year winners were announced at the 2021 APEX Awards, held at the Renaissance Austin Hotel on December 10, 2021.
Assistant Manager of the Year
Lakeshore Pearl, CREA Management
Kaylyn is a hard-working individual who is dedicated to the CREA company culture. She is invested in creating a harmonious rapport amongst her onsite team and residents. She uses her exceptional or-ganization and planning skills to ensure her responsibilities are ac-curately completed in a timely manner and takes initiative to keep busy and assist her team when available. Kaylyn not only prioritiz-es her onsite tasks, but also takes advantage of educational courses through AAA, TAA, and NAA, as continued education is signifi-cant in her goals within the industry. Kaylyn’s ability to adapt to the ever-changing day-to-day life that comes along with working in the Multifamily Industry has aided greatly in her growth and expertise. She can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!
Leasing Specialist of the Year
Quest Apartments, Greystar
Katie Guajardo is a Leasing Professional at Quest Apartments with over a decade of successful experience in the multi-family indus-try. She has excelled in her role, exhibiting one of the highest levels of productivity while consistently maintaining high standards and accuracy. Katie possesses the ultimate “can do” attitude while tak-ing on tasks with positive energy and takes initiative to go beyond expectations on all aspects of her role. In addition, Katie strives to provide the best customer service which has assisted the communi-ty in maintaining high Kingsley and top ORA scores. Katie exem-plifies the Greystar core values and pillars both in and outside of the workplace and encourages those around her to choose joy every day.
Maintenance Manager of the Year

Michael has been in the construction and maintenance field for 17 years starting out as an HVAC technician. Michael has spent his years learning everything he can about multifamily housing and working to move further up in his career. Michael loves to train his staff to become supervisors themselves and makes it a point of pride in seeing how many porters, make ready techs and mainte-nance techs have moved up in their careers. He always feels that he helped them along the way. Michael is a huge advocate of learning. There is no job too large or too small that he will not put all his power into solving as quickly as he can. Michael goes out of his way, anytime he can, to help or just be there for his coworkers and resi-dents. He tries to be an inspiration to those around him all the time.
Maintenance Technician of the Year
Berkshire Lakeway, Berkshire Residential
Gustavo Calderon is a three-year veteran of the apartment main-tenance industry. During this time, Gustavo is characterized by his quick response to emergencies, solid customer care skills, and his ability to complete customers’ requests in a timely manner. Gustavo possesses a strong background in electronics, having graduated from Austin Community College with an associate degree in electronic engineering. In addition to this through the Austin Apartment Association, he has expanded his knowledge by receiving the CAMT certification. Gustavo understands that the strength of a good maintenance tech lays not in what he or she knows, but in the willingness to keep on learning.
Portfolio Supervisor of the Year
Kimberly Faulkner is a Senior Regional Property Manager with Greystar. She has 26 years of experience in multifamily and has been with Greystar for 10 years. Kimberly specializes in renova-tions and market repositioning. She uses her positive attitude to motivate team members to exceed project objectives and devel-ops a climate of enthusiasm, teamwork, and cooperation.
Property Manager of the Year

Jamie Price is an experienced property manager with an extensive background in the multi-family industry. Driven by the desire to boost occupancy, maximize ROI, and ensure excellent rates of res-ident satisfaction, she takes pride in producing positive financial results on a consistent basis. In addition to her primary job func-tions, Jamie has been recognized by Greystar for her extraordinary commitment to Community involvement and service. Jamie has a keen understanding of today’s dynamic residential market which allows for long-term planning with regards to turnover, leasing intricacies, and revenue potential.
Regional Maintenance Supervisor of the Year
Tracy is a very hard-working individual who really cares about his co-workers and team members. He enjoys working with the maintenance teams to try and improve efficiency and quality when it comes to customer service and asset preservation. Tra-cy prefers to mentor the maintenance personnel by performing hands-on instruction as it has proven to have better results vs. just vocal or written instructions. With the shortage of main-tenance staff in the past year, Tracy has been able to help with maintenance requests at some of his properties and help main-tain resident satisfaction until positions could be filled. Tracy is a very valuable asset to our company.
